Free Resource Roundup: Gestalt Language Processing
Free Resource Roundup: Gestalt Language Processing!
Each year, I pick a specific topic in our field to consume and learn, usually based off my current caseload and where I feel like I need support (my caseload varies SO MUCH-- from GLP, to SSD, to language, to early intervention). I spent a lot of time last year focusing on understanding and learning about Gestalt Language Processing, a topic I have begun to feel really passionate about. I thought it would be helpful to share a roundup of some of my favorite resources that have helped me learn, and many of them are completely free!
GLP ROUNDUP:
📚Read:
- Natural Language Acquisition by Marge Blanc
- Uniquely Human by Barry Prizant
- More Than Words by Fern Sussman
- Intro to GLP for teachers (but great for school-based SLPs, too) by Katja Piscitelli
- Finding the Words to Tell the Whole Story by Marge Blanc (free)
- The Natural Language Acquisition Guide by Marge Blanc (free)
- The Informed SLP Article Review: Let's Give Something to Gestalt About
🎧Listen:
- Introduction to Understanding Gestalt Language Development (PepTalk Podcast) - great introduction to GLP!!
- The Gestalt Get Together Podcast (by Corinne Zmoos; every episode is packed with info & I love Corinne's IG, too!)
- Delayed Echolalia & Gestalt Language Processors (Two Sides of the Spectrum)
- Gestalt Language Processing Q&A (Two Sides of the Spectrum) - great listen especially if you have a GLP caseload!
- A Discussion on Echolalia – with Barry Prizant, Dave Finch, and Rebecca Rosenozweig (Uniquely Human the Podcast)
- What Is Gestalt Language Processing (And How Does It Look For The Older Students)? (SLP Coffee Talk)
- Playtime with Tor YouTube Channel (I recently found this channel and LOVE it!! It almost reminds me of Ms. Rachel but for GLPs!)
- What Works for Echolalia and Play Based Sessions (SLP Happy Hour)
💻Learn:
- Communication Development Center (incredible website with tons of info, straight from Marge Blanc and her team)
- Natural Communication (website with free and paid resources, especially great for bilingual GLP!)
- Meaningful Speech Resources & Research (the entire website is packed with information, but these are a great starting point)
Lastly... my favorite course:
Maybe I sound like a broken record here, but Meaningful Speech created a WHOLE COURSE dedicated to the NLA framework. My favorite part of the course includes the MANY real-life examples that Alex walks us through in the modules. I am a visual learner so I really benefit from seeing her GLP sessions in-action!

P.S.: Send this post 📧 to an SLP or SpEd friend who might be interested in learning about NLA! The Read, Listen, and Learn links above are a really great starting point for anyone not quite ready to dive into the full course. Enjoy learning!!
