ChatGPT and the SLP: How AI is Transforming Speech Therapy
I am back with another Guest Post for you today! Ever wondered how to better utilize ChatGPT in your therapy sessions?
Lately I have been wishing I have about 4-5 more hours in my day. My caseload is growing, paperwork doesn't end, and I am TIRED. I have recently been turning to AI to help me shake things up in speech therapy - making my therapy life easier, faster, and way more efficient.
Daj is here to share all about how she's using AI to support her work as an SLP and business owner. She also has a really great freebie for us at the end! Let's goooo!
Hi there! I’m Daj, a school-based SLP based in central IL and your new tech bestie. I love helping other SLPs find ways to streamline their work and save time. I want to take a second to tell you all about one of my favorite tools: ChatGPT.
I am confident you’ve heard of it! This tool is changing the game for so many (SLPs included)! From documentation, to in-the-moment therapy materials, AI has made my school-based SLP and entrepreneurship life MUCH more manageable.
Let’s dive into how ChatGPT can support your daily tasks and give you back valuable time.
1. Draft Content - Whether you are drafting an email, writing a blog post or completely blanking on that ONE word while writing an eval report, it can take on that heavy lifting.
Tech Bestie Tip: Always review the content from ChatGPT and add in your unique voice and style.
2. Refine Reports - ChatGPT can speed up your documentation process in SO many ways. I’m talking about your own personal grammar police right there with you, editing your report.
There is a GPT called, SLP Report Editor that can help you with the following:
- Grammar
- Flow
- Tone
- Structure
- And more!
Tech Bestie Tip: GPT is not HIPAA compliant. Make sure there is no PHI in the content that you input. I will typically take one of my report templates and prompt GPT to add in unique content for each report.
3. Therapy Materials - I love to blend my client’s special interest with their goals by using ChatGPT to create super unique materials (i.e. story passages about their favorite singer, neurodiversity-affirming social stories, quick word lists for drill). The list could go on and on!
Tech Bestie Tip: I have found a lot of success creating home practice lessons as well!
I want you to feel one step closer to no-prep therapy and completing your documentation in record time. If you want to learn more about using time-saving tools in your practice, grab my FREEBIE of 50+ ChatGPT Prompts here or my intro course on AI here.
Shoutout to Abby for the invitation to write today's blog post! Let’s keep the convo going over on instagram at @yourslpdaj

Daj
You can save this tech savvy blog post for later, I know you'll want to come back to this one! And be sure to send to another AI-curious SLP! ❤️❤️
